Mandate The Network of Niger Parliamentarians for the World Trade Organization (WTO) is mandated to provide the citizens of Niger in general, members of the political class, various associations and NGOs as well as the private and public media with as wide-ranging information as possible on the WTO, its composition, the agreements signed under its aegis, its functioning and anything else that might shed further light on the Organization. It is also mandated to help train in Niger all persons (physical and moral, industrial and commercial firms, etc.) interested in learning about the way the WTO operates. The Network of MPs is primarily concerned with facilitating knowledge and understanding for all persons and entities interested in political, economic, trade-related and financial issues in Niger, Africa and the world. It covers essentially the following topics: - The ABCs of the WTO - The principles governing international trade - Conditions for achieving open global trade - How GATT has evolved: from the Havana Conference of 1948 to the Marrakech Conference of 1995 - Manual on WTO practice - Customs duties and other tariff and non-tariff issues at stake in regulating trade between countries - Agriculture and more equitable markets for farmers - Standards and safety issues - Issues related to trade in textiles - Services rules for growth and economic development - Issues related to intellectual property - Anti-dumping measures - Tariff barriers and red tape - Multilateral agreements for a small circle of partners - Examination of trade policy to ensure transparency - Dispute settlement between members - Cross-cutting and new issues - The various programmes and rounds, including the Doha Round.
Membership The Network of MPs is composed of 33 members. Its bureau consists of a chairperson, a deputy chairperson, a rapporteur, an assistant rapporteur, a treasurer and an assistant treasurer.
Working methods The Network of MPs organizes public conferences, workshops and fora, seminars and courses, panel discussions and other meetings. It publishes educational material such as journals, reviews, books, etc.

Relations with external bodies The Network of MPs helps with the preparation, organization and participation of the Niger delegation to international and intra-African conferences on the WTO and all matters concerning trade.
